Pro Level 30 Ski Touring Pack
Unmatched versatility
The Marsupio Pro Level 30 Ski Touring Pack is an impressively well-designed ski-specific pack. As with all Marsupio’s gear, the pack is crafted using exceptionally durable fabrics, is comfortable to wear and offers functional organisation.
The pack features two main compartments: A surprisingly roomy main one for layers, food and flasks, and a smaller snow safety compartment for stowing avy gear and ski crampons. I tend to prefer roomier packs and wasn’t sure how I’d get on with just 30L to play with. But this one didn’t feel much smaller than my usual 45L pack.
Glove-friendly pull tabs and durable zippers all round mean no more fiddling with buckles and drawstrings – something I’ve always despised: the all-round “U” zip back panel entry ensures you can access everything in the main compartment with ease – even with skis stowed on the pack. For my money, that’s a huge advantage.
The Pro Level 30 nails the rest of the details, including a padded ski mask/sunglasses pocket, hydration pack sleeve, with tube cover on the shoulder strap to stop it freezing, and a special internal pocket for a walkie talkie. Even the waistbelt is well thought out, with a gear loop on one side and small zipped pocket on the other.
When it’s time to stow skis and switch to crampons and ice axe, the pack provides two carrying options: A-frame style on the sides using slots, or slung diagonally across the back of the pack using two intelligent pull-out attachments. I found both options fast and easy, but prefer the diagonal stow, because the skis tend to sit in a more convenient place, meaning they’re less likely to catch the backs of your legs when you walk.
In addition to ski attachment points, the exterior of the pack is also crammed with numerous handy features including a pull-out helmet carrier, a central daisy chain for attaching gear, straps for snowboard or snowshoes, and ice axe loops.
All in all, this is a versatile pack with a superbly user-friendly design. This makes it great fun to play around with different set ups to find the one that suits your style, meaning you can really dial in your routine.
